Had a hour long meeting with Rick the current Sheriff about CCW's this week.
The last Sheriff had only rejected two applications in 12 years, both had felony convictions. The current Sheriff has only had two new applications filed since he took office this January. Both have been approved. Per County Policy he can not issue for personal protection and self-defense. However, he WILL issue for "no reasonable expectation of Law Enforcement presence". After 4:00 pm the only have 3 deputies in the whole county till 10:00 pm. ZERO Deputies from 10:00 PM till 7:00 AM. The a full squad starts day shift at 7:00 AM. For residences on Mammoth Lakes, He wants you to apply at the P.D. first. He has no problem issuing you if they reject you. As long as you have no felonies or any of the 300 no-no misdemeanors. They will be talking the 16 hour and four training in house shortly. They will no longer be using outside vendors. Questions? E-mail me. I know the Chief of Mammoth Lakes PD, and the Sheriff quite well. They both are good people.
